Yakushiji Pagoda
This model is based off a Yakushiji pagoda in Nara, Japan. I have always been intrigued by Japanese architecture, and thought that making a pagoda for my showreel was a perfect time to explore it within my work. Creating this was also good practice on building modular objects, as pagodas rely hugely on modular construction and symmetry. Created in 3DS Max over the period of 2 weeks, and rendered in V-Ray.
Photo Reference
I used these photos as reference for building the pagoda. I wanted to stay away from a pristine look, as doing so would have a very flat variation of colour and detail within the textures. I thought that making the pagoda look slightly worn was the perfect way to experiment with shaders.
